Love Note

I found this at the bottom of our empty cookie bowl.

Now that is my kind of love note!

Harvest 2010

Harvest started early this year. My dad said it's the earliest he can ever remember. Two weeks ago we drove up for his birthday, to sit in the combine and grain truck with him.

Happy birthday dad!

This is totally his element.

Driving the grain truck.

Riding in the grain truck.

Getting ready to get in the combine.

Big tire.

We squished into the cab. It made for a cozy ride.

We saw 4 deer run out from the rows. Can you spot them, in the top of the picture?

Dancing while the corn unloads.

I love, love, love harvest. Somehow hours go by while you're riding in the combine, and it only feels like a few minutes. The fall weather, the smell of the dry stalks, the togetherness...perfection.

In the car the other day, the following interaction occurred.

(My husband and I, sitting in the front chatting, missed the beginning of the kids' conversation.)

Him: Don't say what.

Her: What.

Him: I want to be the last one to say what.

Her: What.

Him: Don't say what!

Her: What. What. What.

Him: Mama, I want her to stop saying What. I want to be the last one to say it.

Me: Hmm

Him: (whispers very quietly) What.

Her: (also whispers) What.

Me: Maybe you could say it inside your mind, but not out loud.

Him: Quiet for a moment, apparently saying what inside his mind.

Him, to his sister: Haha, you don't know what I just said!

Her, very curious: What?

Just About

Earlier this week, this girl looked at me with such an earnest expression and said in her soft voice, "Mama, I'm just about a baby."

Just about.

My Burrito Babies

He wanted to be wrapped up tightly. She, of course, followed suit.

They grabbed the opportunity for some face snuggles.

Then he got a mischievous look in his eye, and said, "I'm gonna lick you!"

It was the funniest thing they ever heard.
