Impossibly Sweet

My husband took this video tonight. It captures her personality perfectly--so charming and funny and genuine. I love this tiny girl.

Hug

I found this picture yesterday. It was taken at the end of May. Already his hair is longer and her dress is shorter. This picture captures such a tender moment, I get teary-eyed looking at it.

My girl has been sick with a fever the last 36 hours, but she woke up this morning feeling well again. I appreciate the slower pace of the day when one of the children is sick. Yesterday we pulled out all of our Busytown books--14 of them-- and read them all. Nests were made all over the house; whichever room we were in needed a spot for pillows and blankets.

Maybe today we'll pull out all the Dr. Seuss books.

Would You Like To See A Zillion Pictures Of The Children's Museum?

Our state is home to the world's largest children's museum. It has 5 huge levels. It's impossible to see everything in one visit. This time we didn't even make it to the dinosaur exhibit to see the T-rex bones and the fun fossil digging site. We didn't play in the play houses or ice cream shop, and we didn't get to science works, which is Bee's favorite room. We spent 6 hours there, and saw maybe half of it.

Here is the story of some of the things we did see, told in pictures. Many, many pictures. Probably too many, but I will post them anyway.

Skirts

She fell asleep on the ride there. Awesome!
Also strange, because it was 9:30 a.m. but I'll take it.

So excited to arrive! (Yes, that monkey is wearing a diaper.)

They lounged on this spinning bench for a long while, gazing
at the glass sculpture above it.

They are watching the sound and light show at the train depot.
She was amazed, and in this picture she is trying to tell her
brother how neat it is.

Dinosaur play table.

Getting a hairdo.

She is listening to a story on a phone.

He has always loved to play in sand.

"Why yes, I think I'll mail this avocado."

Water table.

She slid down this slide about 30 times. I know I've mentioned
before how much she loves to slide, but she really loves it.

Time to do a little gardening.

He's being a bird, with a giant bird house.

It's a skid steer. All the two year old's are driving them.

Tunnel.

For 15 minutes he was a package delivery man, delivering packages
on this....hand powered thingy.

.

Dragons.

Drawing is serious work!

Sculpting dragon heads.

First carousel ride on a horse--usually she insists I hold her.

He was riding on a reindeer.

Driving a tuk-tuk in the modern Egypt exhibit.

She's checking out the Egyptian store.

Petting a Nile crocodile.

Bee's in this coffee shop making me a smoothie.

Posing with a dinosaur in front of the building.

Good thing we have a membership, because once is not enough.

Lora Loves: Puddle Jumpers

We've been spending about 4 hours a day in the pool since purchasing these new life vests. Wearing them, the kids are almost completely independent, which means I have my hands free to enjoy swimming as well.

Here, I'll let the pictures tell you about it.

At first he was worried it wouldn't hold him up. But it did!

The water is 4.5 feet deep, and he can't touch.

She is not so cautious, and took off right away, as if she'd been swimming for years.

Just look at this! She's only two!

In other news, we had friends over last night. They stayed until after 1 in the morning. I love sitting up talking, snacking, reminiscing. We even played our old original nintendo. They have 3 kids, and all the children stayed up too, playing together. It was a strange feeling when all the kids went off together to play, even the littlest. Us grownups actually had plenty of time to talk! There is stamp ink smeared on my counter, playdough on the floor, and toys are everywhere. Dishes are piled high. But my heart is full and happy.

Fun Things

We had a stay-up-late get-up-early kind of weekend. In between we filled the time with fun things.

We went to a party and visited with friends from high school. I finished high school 14 years ago. What? That can't be true.

My kids got to go fishing for the first time! That was very exciting. My son caught two fish, and my daughter caught one.

He had wanted to do this for a long time.

His hands, learning how to reel.

Waiting her turn while her big brother fishes, pebbles in her shoes. She looks so tiny to me in this picture.

First catch! He caught it, but wouldn't touch it!

Patience.

She didn't have to wait long though, before she caught this one.

There was lots of food, and of course, some of these:

I love my husband's photography.

The next day we cleaned house, went swimming, and watched more fireworks.

Yesterday we went to my mother-in-law's house and lounged in her wading pool and ate cherries. She also had corn on the cob.

Ten Great Things About My Daughter

1. She brushes my hair.

2. When we walk out of a store, she says, "Let's go to another store!"

3. She will randomly walk up to me and say, "It's okay mama, it's okay." and pat my arm.

4. She spends her park time going up ladders and down slides.

5. She writes in squiggly spirals.

6. She likes to "read" books to me. They are all the same story. It goes like this:

7. She is very, very funny and has a great laugh.

8. She entertains me with tricks, like jumping off the couch.

9. This video:

10. She has a huge heart. Huge.
